Kenyon has studied a wide variety of paint and mixed media techniques, but fibre is her passion, and she has explored weaving, dyeing, surface design, and all forms of stitching. Kenyon is best known for her vibrantly colourful creations of wall hangings composed of stitch only, called Thread Painting. This requires a foundation (stabilizer) on which to stitch that can be dissolved at the end of the project. Working in this way, the artist is essentially drawing & painting with thread, instead of using other traditional painting mediums. Thread Painting creates exceptional detail and texture that are not possible with any other technique, and Kenyon is explores both the natural and the urban world in her imagery.
Each piece in this series is composed only of rayon and cotton sewing machine thread. After finishing, the piece is invisibly hand-stitched to a heavy black linen, which is then mounted onto canvas stretchers for framing.
