Biography

John Charnetski's original skill and focus was kinetic art and he made large public-art metal sculptures.
John has been an important art educator in BC. He established the sculpture and ceramics department in the basement of Malaspina College (Founded in 1969, now Vancouver Island University) and taught there from 1970 - 1994 . He organized the significant Malaspina Ceramic Symposiums, run annually from 1975-1985 - probably the first ceramic symposiums held in BC. John was the North-West Ceramics Foundation's Honouree at the first Canadian Clay Symposium in 2000.
John retired as an educator in 1994 and started a full time studio practice focusing on Raku.
He is proprietor of J C Designs, located in Nanaimo, BC. He sold through the Gallery of BC Ceramics.
