Peter Ackermann: An influential German architectural artist, Peter Ackermann studied painting and etching techniques at the Free University of Berlin (1954) and at the Hochschule fur Bildende Kunst, Berlin (1956-1962). In the early 1960's, Peter Ackermann became a major representative of Phantastischen Realismus (Fantastic Realism), particularly in his etchings where he often juxtaposed deserted ruins with parts of machinery.
After 1963 Peter Ackermann worked as a freelance artist in Karlsruhe. In 1972 he became a visiting professor at Karlsruhe’s, Akademie der Bildende Kunste, and, in 1976, became a professor at that city’s State Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1966, Peter Ackermann was awarded the Deutschen Kunstkritik Prize and in 1971 he was the recipient of the Ville Romana Prize. Retrospective exhibitions of Peter Ackermann's art were held at municipal museums at Karlsruhe (1997), Kalkar (2001) and Mainz (2004).
