Biography
Nova Scotian, Denise (De) Jeffrey holds a B.Des in Environmental Planning (NSCAD/ Dalhousie). She took up ceramics and in 1999 achieved her BFA from NSCAD, instructors, Walter Ostrom, Neil Forrest, Joan Bruneau and visiting instructor - Jackson Lee ( Jingdezhen, China), fellow student, Brendan Tang. De apprenticed with some south shore potters in Nova Scotia (Joan Bruneau, K.R. Thompson), and established her first pottery in Dartmouth, NS. She served on the board of the Nova Scotia Designer Craft Council until 2009.
De relocated to Burnaby, BC, in 2009 and quickly became involved in BC ceramics, Joining the board in 2010 of the Potters Guild of BC, serving as President 2012-15. She joined the board of the North West Ceramics Foundation in 2012, serving as Vice-President from 2012- 2016 and as President from 2016-2018, and currently serves as Treasurer.
The recipient of numerous awards, De has exhibited her work in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Washington State and British Columbia. She sold and exhibited at the Gallery of BC Ceramics, and sells at Crafthouse (CCBC) Vancouver, Blackberry Gift Shop, Port Moody. She was a resident at Medalta in 2015. In 2020/21 De was the resident artist in the Judy Cramner lab in the UBC Museum of Anthropology.
