Biography
Jeremy Hatch first encountered ceramics at Langara College , instructor Sarah Coote, before attending Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and graduating in 2000, instructor Paul Mathieu. In 1999 he was the Recipient of the North-West Ceramics Foundation's Jumpstart Scholarship, in 2000, the Canadian Craft Museum Millennium purchase award, and the Maureen Wright Scholarship from the Potters Guild of BC. Jeremy was the visiting scholar in 2002 Nova Scotia College of Art, and earned his MFA at the New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University in 2003.
Jeremy returned to Vancouver and taught at ECUAD in 2005/06. In 2004 his work was included in the 'Hot Clay, Sixteen West Coast Ceramic Artists' at the Surrey Art Gallery, BC. Jeremy has also exhibited at Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Waterloo, The Urban Institute for Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, The Canadian Craft Museum, Vancouver, The Icheon World Ceramic Center, Icheon, Korea, The Holter Museum, Helena, Montana, and the Duolun Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai, China. In 2020/21 his work was included in the 'Playing With Fire, Ceramics of the Extraordinary,' at the UBC Museum of Anthropology.
He has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants, and is the subject of numerous article, please see his website.
Jeremy has attended residencies at the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, The Archie Bray Foundation, The European Ceramic Work Center, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, the Art/Industry Program at Kohler Company, and at Medalta.
He is an assistant professor at the Montana University.
Jeremy Hatch has developed a superlative skill in mould making and slip-casting with a translucent porcelain. He makes castings of familiar objects, some of them room-size, complete with fine detailing, that evoke memory and nostalgia, blurring the line between real, imagined and remembered.
He has founded the Ricochet Studio in service of making limited edition finely crafted functional or non-functional objects.
