Biography

During the 60s Durnan was a designer at the Chelsea Pottery in London.
In the late 60s, she represented the company as part of a promotion of British goods in the US, by giving pottery demonstrations in department stores.
In 1967 she worked with a potter's wheel and kiln at Gimbels in Pittsburgh and demonstrated hand-painting at Macy's in New York (1968) and at The Broadway stores in Southern California (1969).

In the early 1970s she established Shawnigan Lake Pottery on Vancouver Island, moving to California around 1980.
Both at Chelsea and Shawnigan she became known for plates and wall plaques decorated with flowers or butterflies.
She sold her work at the Clam Shell gift shop at the Vancouver Aquarium (1973 and 1974), the Handloom in Victoria (1975) and the Canadiana Shop at Woodwards (1977). By 1980 she had established herself in California, although still selling her California-made pottery in Victoria.
She is currently engaged in silk painting.
