Biography
Dr. David Dolphin is a Vancouver-based artist and scientist. He had an outstanding career as a chemist and was a recipient of the Hertzberg Medal in 2005, awarded to Canada’s top scientist. His work contributed to the development of the drug Visudyne, which was the first treatment for age related macular degeneration and has saved the sight of more than a million people. - please see his website
After making his career as a professor and research chemist, Dr. David Dolphin turned his attention to the ceramic arts. He uses his understanding of the principles of chemistry, and digital technologies to push the boundaries of ceramic form, production, and surface materials and design.
In his new role he enjoys working with other artists and sharing experiments and discoveries that push the boundaries of the ceramic arts. He is a member of the Aberthau Potters Guild and participates in the annual community event, Artist in Our Midst.
