Biography

Lisa Henriques has studied ceramics worldwide, focusing on the specific oeuvre of large containment vessels, their meaning, as well as the technology.
Lisa received her BFA in Ceramics from Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in 1999, studying with Sally Michener and Tam Irving. She studied vessel traditions in Africa, Mexico, India and China for a decade. She earned her Masters from Australia National University in 2011.
Lisa has attended residencies at Jingdezhen, China, Guldgergaard, Denmark, and European Ceramic Work Centre, Netherlands. Lisa’s work has been exhibited in North America, Asia and Europe.
In 2009 Lisa was the first recipient of the North-West Ceramics Award of Excellence.
In 2012 Lisa received the BC Creative Achievement Award for Applied Arts and Design.
In 2014 Lisa was the first long-term resident in the Judy Cranmer Ceramics Lab, at the UBC Museum of Anthropology.
She has received a number of Canada Council and arts awards to assist her studies and exhibited in London, UK, New York, Korea, China, Spain and Italy
