Biography

Samantha Knopp is an exciting young artist who studied at Emily Carr with Paul Mathieu. Fellow Student was Amelia Butcher and the Dusty Babes Collective was founded shortly after graduation in Don Hutchinson's old studio in Surrey, BC.
Sam is inventive with how she alters her clay bodies to achieve stone-like qualities and contrasts with lustrous glaze. She is also known for her clean elegant design of her pottery, with an allegiance to Mid Century design.
Sam has been awarded a number of times with the 2013 RBC Emerging Artist Award, the Circle craft Graduation Award, and she was nominated for Emerging Artist for the 2015 Mayer's Arts Awards by Debra Sloan.
Sam was a teaching assistant at Arts Umbrella in 2014 and the studio tech at Kwantlen college in 2015.
Sam has also been a resident at Medalta in 2014 and was artist in residence at the Banff Centre in the winter of 2017.
In 2017 Sam relocated to Irma, Alberta and has successfully set up a new studio there.
