Biography

English born Friederike (Fredi) Rahn is a ceramic artist and educator in Vancouver, BC. She became involved in clay at a young age through community centre classes. She studied at the Sheridan College School of Crafts and Design and later at Nova Scotia College of Art. Fredi has participated in artists’ residencies at Watershed, in Maine, The Archie Bray Foundation in Montana, Talavera Uriarte in Puebla, Mexico, and The Banff Centre in Alberta. She has taken part in exhibits across Canada and the US, and sold through the Gallery of BC Ceramics. Fredi worked at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts assisting with ceramic programming and continues to participate in community firings there. In 2020, she left her east Vancouver studio and has been sharing a small space in Kitsilano. She attended 2 artist residencies in 2021, one as the recipient of the Strojich Fellowship (Medalta), and one as a mentor/resident (Shadbolt Centre).
In 2022 Fredi plans to return to Medicine Hat and in 2022 she was awarded a Maureen Wright bursary from the NWCF to participate in Artist Residencies at the Zentrum fur Keramik, in Berlin
