Biography
Born in Taiwan, Amy Li-Chuan Chang first worked in ceramics at a cloisonné company and studied ceramics in a private pottery studio.
In 1995 she moved to Vancouver. She obtained a Diploma at Capilano University (teacher - Sam Kwan)and attended a few sculpture classes held by Debra Sloan at the Shadbolt Centre.
Amy attained her BFA from Emily Carr University in 2007. (Teachers - Paul Mathieu and Justin Novak - expert mould maker and designer) She was awarded a full scholarship for the 2007 summer session at the Penland School of Crafts, USA.
In recent years her work has been selected for several international ceramic juried exhibitions; NCECA 2007, USA; Taiwan Ceramic Biennale 2008, and 2019, and Mino International Ceramic Competition 2011 in Nagoya, Japan.
In 2021 Amy had a solo exhibition at Yingge Ceramics Museum Taipei Taiwan.
In 2020 she won the Bronze Prize at the inaugural World Ceramic Teapot Art Competition held in Yixing, China.
Amy has also shown her ceramic works in numerous galleries in Vancouver, including the BC Gallery of Ceramics, Richmond Art Gallery, Canton-sardine Gallery, Lipton Gallery, the Chinese Cultural Centre and the CCBC gallery.
Amy is known for her beautifully slipcast and intriguing quasi-industrial/organic forms. She makes both elaborate individual works or multi-piece installations.
