Biography

Ying Yueh Chuang was born and raised in Taiwan and came to Canada in the 1990s.
She achieved a diploma from Langara College in 1997 (teacher, Sarah Coote) , a BFA from Emily Carr Institute in 1999 (teacher - Paul Mathieu.) In 2001 she received her MFA in Ceramics from NSCAD University.
In 2006 she received the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics, and has earned a number of Provincial and Canada Council awards for her work.
Ying Yueh has taught across Canada for many of the major Ceramics Departments; at NSCAD University, OCAD University, University of Regina, Sheridan College, Capilano University and Langara College. She is currently head of the Ceramics Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Ying Yueh's work is included in numerous public collections and it has been featured in Art in America, Ceramics Monthly, Ceramic Review and Ceramics Art & Perception. She has participated in exhibitions in Canada, the United States, Hungary, Taiwan, Korea, China and Australia. She has attended a number of residencies in Jingdezehn , China, as well as at Banff and Waterfront in Toronto.
Ying Yueh is a member of the Fraser Valley Potters Guild, often facilitating their workshops, and in 2013 she became an active member of the North-West Ceramics Foundation. In 2020/21 her work was included in the Playing With fire, exhibition, held at MOA and curated by Carol Mayer.
