Biography

Makovkin started out studying architecture at UBC and became interested in pottery through an Extension Department course at the Ceramic Hut, where he studied with Rex Mason. In 1954 he was invited to work for Heath Ceramics in Sausalito where he eventually became production manager. He left Heath Ceramics in 1960 to start his own studio in Mendocino, California.
