Biography
Henson is known as a potter who integrated natural elements into his work and as a ceramic sculptor and teacher.
During the 1960s he taught in England, including a period at Loughborough College where he taught Neil Dalrymple. He came to Victoria in 1970, and as Dick Henson had a one-man exhibition at the AGGV. (He changed his name to Simon Henson in 1977.) He established a pottery school in Victoria in 1975.
In 1980 he moved to Saltspring Island where he eventually founded the Saltspring Island School of Sculpture (ca 1990) which evolved into the Saltspring Island School of the Arts (1991).
