Biography
Hawbolt graduated from the VSA in 1969 where he studied with Reg Dixon and Leonhard Epp , with fellow students, Wayne Ngan, Heinz Laffin, and Lari Robson. After graduation he spent a year in Europe, followed by a year teaching in Vancouver, which included conducting a 5-day workshop in North Vancouver for Continuing Education (UBC). The workshop focused on finding natural clay, using found materials for kilns, and making and firing raku.
In 1977 she had a joint exhibit at the House of Ceramics with Hiro Urakami.
Disinterested in further teaching and seeking a studio location, he visited fellow VSA graduate Lari Robson on Galiano Island and established his own studio there in 1972 (Gulf Islands Driftwood, Feb 8, 1973). He sold his work in Vancouver through the Double Door Studio, Handcraft House, and House of Ceramics and in Victoria at the Potter's Wheel and the Hand Loom.
