Description
Swayne studied art with her architect father and later art and pottery at the Victoria School of Art under Ina Uhthoff in the early 1940s. She was a hobbyist potter during the 1940s before opening her studio in Sidney, BC around 1953. In a Vancouver Sun article (July 18, 1953) she is said to have studied pottery with Harry Hopkins at the Camberwell School of Art in the UK and that she used a mixture of Saskatchewan and mostly local Sidney clay, made her own glazes, and taught briefly at the Pottery Club located in the Kingston St School, Victoria.
