Biography
South African, Laura Van der Linde immigrated to Canada (date unknown.) after receiving art training in South Africa. She has successfully maintained a full time career as a production potter, and she teaches at several community centres as well as her own studio, and recently she was invited to teach at MISSA - Metchosin International Summer School of Art. She incorporates South African decorative traditions of bold colour and intricate patterns, reminiscent of S.A. flora, fauna and textiles, but with a modern feel. She builds her patterns using skilled slip-trailing. Her intention is to enhance every day living with useful but exuberant pottery.
Laura is involved with craft organizations , a member of Circle Craft Co-op, and their Christmas Market, the Filberg Festival, the Eastside Crawl, and her work was shown at the Gallery of BC Ceramics.
