Biography

Ron Vallis was born in Vancouver, attended the Vancouver School of Art 1971 - 75 and studied with John Reeve, Tam Irving and Sally Michener, graduating with Honours as a ceramics major. In 1981 - 82 he attended a residency at the Banff School of Fine Arts. From 1973-79 he taught at Peg's Place Pottery School. He worked with Tam Irving developing a standard ware during the late 1970s and early 80’s after which he briefly shared a studio with John Reeve and Sam Kwan on Granville Island. He later became an expert art prepator at the Equinox Gallery. Since 1990 he has served as on the Potter’s Guild of BC and in the North-West Ceramics Foundation including a term as president of the PGBC and as president of the NWCF until 2016 and remains on the Board. Since 2007 he has shared a studio with former Leach apprentice, Martin Peters, at the Dunbar Pottery. Ron's pottery has become recognized and is collected for its fine, fluid throwing, and reveals his appreciation of the Leach /Mingei values.
