Biography

English born Ron Tribe, was born in Surrey England and immigrated to Vancouver in 1953. He worked in business until the late 1960s and then attended the Vancouver School of Art (teachers, Leonhard Epp and Reg Dixon) and also at UBC, and Capilano College. He is a highly respected modernist clay sculptor, influenced by Japanese and Scandinavian design and by architect Arthur Erickson. .
He started making pottery in the early 1970s while still employed in marketing. He became a full-time potter in 1976. He sold his work at more than 20 different galleries on BC's Lower Mainland and in Victoria, often numerous times at each. Among the most important of these were The Quest, the AGGV, the Handloom, the Potter's Wheel (all Victoria) and the Gallery of BC Ceramics (Granville Island), Circle Craft (in Gastown and on Granville Island), and at the Potters Guild Hycroft sales. He gave pottery demonstrations at the Richmond Art Centre (1974), the AGGV (1975) and the Malaspina Workshop in Nanaimo (1980).
