Biography
Jack Olive grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, attended Moorhead State College in Minnesota, math and chemistry, and was a biochemist for Oregon Medical School. He returned to Moorhead and studied ceramics and graphics. In 1971 he moved to Vancouver and was a founding member and director of the Vancouver Clayworks Society - a co-op of 12 members. Clayworks first set up on Hamilton Street , Vancouver, in an old factory. They later moved to Richmond, and then briefly to Granville Island. They did receive Canada Council help in funding an enormous gas kiln. Jack was an early proponents of photography being transferred onto glaze surfaces. He moved to the Sunshine Coast and has been working as a production potter, and with raku ceramic flutes, and known for his surface carving, painting, and strong throwing.
