Biography
After Graduating from ECUAD in 1999, Aaron traveled to Chicago and worked with the renowned American ceramicist, Ruth Duckworth. He has worked in Chicago, Vancouver, Victoria and Montana and has taught in a variety of contexts, from colleges and universities in Chicago, to youth at risk in Victoria. He has also taught technical workshops on glaze chemistry, kiln building, mold making, and wheel throwing in both the US and Canada and worked as a consultant at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana.
While in Vancouver Aaron produced finely thrown and altered porcelain. In 2004 he was awarded Silver for Excellence in Craft from Circle Craft. Aaron Nelson began at Medalta by hosting a kiln building workshop in 2009 and has since been employed first as Artistic Director, then Associate Director, and finally as the Executive Director in 2017.
In Aaron's a studio practice, he was involved in experimental work with porcelains, with the concept of connectivity, exploring digital technology intersecting with traditional ceramic practice.
Aaron’s work has been featured in The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Reader and Contact magazine. He is represented by galleries in Canada and the US.
