Biography
A Nisei, or a second generation Japanese Canadian, Frank Kiyooka was born in Calgary, Alberta, the youngest brother of Roy Kiyooka. [1]
He studied in Denmark, taught high school for 20 years.
In 1964 he traveled to Kyoto, Japan, to study pottery, then set up studios in Jasper and in Hinton, Alberta. In 1967, potter, Toru Hasegawa, studied at his Hinton studio.
In 1968 his owrk was incluced in exhibition 'Studio Afair'.
1: Note; the mark displayed was thought to belong to Roy Kiyooka, (a painter) but there is no evidence Roy worked in clay.
