Biography
Cathi Jefferson’s career as a studio-trained potter began in 1974 under the mentorship of Herman Venema, in Matsqui, BC. She also completed fine arts courses at Kwantlen College and the Fraser Valley College. Two Canada Council Grants provided funding residencies at the Bray Foundation in Montana, (1997 / 2006). Other residencies - Banff (2000 / 2005), Maine (1997), Japan (1993 / 2003), the UK (2002).

In 2013 Cathi was awarded a residency collaboration Cowichan Valley Arts Council & ‘OAIR’ Tokyo, Japan.
Experiences with fellow ceramic artists include a Cuban artist exchange (2004), and wood-firings in BC, Banff, Oregon and Minnesota.
In 2010 Cathi received the BC Achievement, Carter Wosk Award for Crafts and Design.
Cathi has taught workshops and classes throughout Canada and abroad, and at the ECUAD, Kootenay School of Art, Medalta in Medicine Hat, North Mount Pleasant in Calgary, and at ‘Series’ in Red Deer.
Cathi is a member of the collective FIRED UP! Contemporary Works in Clay, she served on the North-West Ceramics Foundation, past president of the Fraser Valley Potters Guild, past co-chair Canadian Clay Symposium, and current president of the volunteer run Clay Hub Collective in the Cowichan Valley.
Cathi sold through the Gallery of BC Ceramics, and sells through the Schaller Gallery, USA and at the Jonathon Bancroft-Snell Gallery in Ontario.
Cathi is very active within the BC and the Island communities promoting and supporting craft. She is highly respected mentor and potter renowned for her handsome saltglaze pottery.
