Biography
Mary Fox was born 1959, in Fredericton, NB. Her family moved to BC in 1966. She started working in clay as a teenager while still at highschool, and is largely self taught.
Mary is known for her textural glazes and sculptural forms often combined with the discerning use of glass or rock.
After moving studios during the 1980s and early 90s, Mary settled in Ladysmith BC in 1991, where she continues to work.
Mary had been a member of the Potters Guild of BC and has recently retired from the Fired Up collective, after having been a member since 1998. She has sold through the Gallery of BC Ceramics, she still sells through Circle Craft Co-op .
In 2020 Mary published her book, " My Life as a Potter".
In 2020 she launched the 'Mary Fox Legacy Society Project', with the support of the Craft Council of B.C.
She has created the the only formal ceramic residency programme in BC - The Legacy Project Apprenticeship program is a 2 year traditional apprenticeship where the apprentice works alongside Mary, they are given a monthly honorarium.
The Legacy Project, Artist residency starts after Mary passes and will be a 2 year program with an option for a 3d year. Living accommodations will be supplied by the project.
