Biography
English born, Meg Buckley immigrated to Canada in 1956, settling in Port Alberni. She first took pottery classes at the UBC Pottery Huts in 1961/62, (John Reeve, Hilda Ross) while working as a nurse. She went on to study at VSA (Robert Weghsteen) and became a well known and excellent functional potter, first working at the 4th Avenue studio, Tanzar Crafts, and moved to Saltspring Island in 1980, where she carried on making reliable and handsome pottery until she was 80 years old. She was very influenced by the idea of the Leach tradition of making simple functional pottery and is another example of 'village' potter serving a community. Some other BC potters who has chosen the quiet, rural ifestyle - Gary Cherneff, Darrel Hancock, Robert Bush, Lari Robson, Heinz Laffin , Gerhard Kozel, and Gunda Stewart.
