Biography
Graeme Allemeersch was one of the early proponents of the earthenware/majolica practice in BC. Colourful and decorated, majolica was beginning to capture the public interest, and at that time, in stark contrast to the doninant era of brown-pots-, prevalent from the 1950s. Influenced and trained by the famed Walter Ostom at NSCAD, Graeme was one of his students who brought this practice to BC (and around Canada.) He set up his studio in Trail, BC. Graeme's decorative and lively work was very popular and he exhibited and sold through the Gallery of BC Ceramics. He also supported the charitable 'Oven and Kiln' auctions held by the North-West Ceramics Foundation. He returned to PEI and family in 2010.
In Graeme’s words …
” Making pots is a personal journey, an exploration of the nature of form and decoration in pottery. By using strong, simple forms with a decoration that activates the surface, I try to unify the form and decoration in a way that imparts a feeling of joy and movement to the work. “
