Biography
Margarete came to Canada from Germany in 1952 and studied with John Reeve (1954 tbc), sculptor Olivier Strabelle (UBC, summer, 1961) and Kyllikki Salmenhaara (UBC, summer, 1964). In 1959 she established her pottery business using the name Gilmar Pottery Studio, located in Victoria. In 1961 she started teaching, specializing in using the potter's wheel. She later sold pottery and weaving supplies at her store Island Handcraft House in Victoria (from the 60s to 1979) and on Salt Spring Island (from 1973)
