Biography

Andrew Wong (Snr) attended UBC in the 1970s, teacher, Glenn Lewis, and had a studio in Maple Ridge, BC. He built an oil-fired cross-draft kiln in the early 1970s. After traveling in Japan and South China, he built a high-fire wood kiln in 1981 styled after the Jindezhen and Thai Anagama kilns. He extended the kiln in 1987.

Andrew moved to the Interior in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
His fine salt fired work was shown at the House of Ceramics and in several important exhibitions.

Andrew Wong's small anagama kiln. Photographer Mark Tigges states that it might be one of the earliest wood-fired kilns in British Columbia and now disused for some 20 years.
